Holos Architecture + Design, in collaboration with Pine & Peak Studio, has broken ground on A-Frame Cabin, a mountain home nestled in the woods of Fairplay, Colorado. The milestone follows last year’s release of renderings.
“We started excavation mid-September,” said Rushika Gill, AIBC, NCARB, Founder and Principal of Holos Architecture + Design. “I’m excited to see my first A-frame come to life.”
Between the render release and construction start, many important steps took place including detailing out the design, coordination with structural, producing the full set of construction and permitting drawings, and pricing out the build to ensure the project stayed within budget. Pine & Peak Studio is the architect of record and builder on the project; Holos worked on the design and documentation.
The major challenge with this site will be access in the winter. “Due to its high altitude, it receives a lot of snow which will cause a break in the construction schedule,” Gill explained. “That’s why we’re pushing hard to get the structure closed in before winter.”
“The steep sloped roof of the A-frame is the part I’m most excited to see come to life first,” Gill said. “It’s the defining gesture of the design.”
The project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
