Holos Architecture + Design, in collaboration with Pine & Peak Studio, is pleased to share new renderings of A-Frame Cabin, a family-oriented vacation home in Fairplay, Colorado.
Designed for a young family of five who love spending time outdoors, the project envisions a kid-friendly cabin in the woods that also holds long-term value in the region’s short-term rental market.
Set within a natural clearing, the cabin’s siting minimizes tree removal and preserves the surrounding landscape. “We wanted to take advantage of the natural clearing on site and minimize tree removal as much as possible, so the building was sited accordingly,” said Rushika Gill, AIBC, NCARB, Founder and Principal of Holos Architecture + Design.
“The modern A-frame typology in North America dates back to the 1930s and is synonymous with snow at this point,” Gill added. “The site is located on a high-altitude lot in Fairplay, CO, where the form will serve its purpose well. The steep roof closing in provides a sense of refuge and comfort, while glass on the gable ends provides that prospect towards the mountain peaks. The use of large skylights on the sloping roof provide glimpses upward and outward, creating a sense of respite under the dense tree canopy of the surrounding forest.”
“This is my first A-frame project, so I’m excited to see the framing go up,” Gill said. “We worked closely with the engineer on the details to achieve as open of a truss bay as possible without many cross members to achieve that clean modern look.”
Excavation and site work are scheduled for October 2025, with completion anticipated in September 2026.
